Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Field)

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Field) is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment directly at job sites across the DFW area. This role requires a self-motivated, experienced mechanic who can work independently in the field, respond quickly to equipment issues, and keep operations running with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to job sites to diagnose and repair heavy equipment in the field
  • Perform troubleshooting on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components
  • Complete preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on-site
  • Repair or replace parts including hoses, cylinders, pumps, motors, and electrical components
  • Operate service truck and maintain proper inventory of tools and commonly used parts
  • Communicate effectively with operators, foremen, and management regarding equipment status
  • Document repairs, inspections, and parts usage accurately
  • Prioritize service calls based on operational needs and urgency
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company safety policies and OSHA standards

  • Bulldozers
  • Wheel loaders
  • Skid steers and compact track loaders
  • Attachments (grapples, shears, breakers, etc.)

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic (field experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment with minimal supervision
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required (CDL required)
  • Welding and fabrication skills are a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily field-based at active construction/demolition job sites
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb on/off equipment, and work in tight or elevated spaces
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy machinery
